Listen to these two interviews to find out more about the volunteering opportunities available through Charnwood Connect
Charnwood Connect has developed a unique multi-agency volunteering pathway to provide opportunities for local people to volunteer in the advice, information and support services sector. Since the project began in September 2013, over 70 volunteers have been recruited, trained and supported to volunteer with one of Charnwood Connect’s partners or an affiliated agency.
With the contributions from volunteers, Charnwood Connect partners have become better equipped to provide a range services for people in need of information, advice and support in Charnwood. We continue to look for more people to join our volunteer team.
Volunteers come from all walks of life and age ranges – from students to retired people and those seeking work. Our volunteers give their time as mentors, advisers, receptionists, food parcel packers, administrators, fundraisers, trustees and researchers. They bring enthusiasm, experience and leadership. Volunteers gain from the experience too in terms of confidence, new opportunities and training. It’s an experience that helps volunteers to feel good about themselves, play a role in local communities and develop skills that are useful when seeking paid work.
A few words from some of the volunteers:
‘After my three sessions of training I felt confident and had a clear understanding of the role of volunteer as well as the many different kinds of organisations involved.’
‘I’d recommend Charnwood Connect volunteering to unemployed people because it gives you an up to date reference and refreshes your skills.’
‘This project enabled me to decide that volunteering was the right thing for me. It prepared me very much, was a real eye opener, with lots of information. It was all extremely valuable and relevant.’
